Beautiful Weeds: 8” X 10” X 10”
Medium: air dry clay, metal wire, acrylic paint
In this project I wanted to represent how praising things for their beauty ends us taking away the beauty from the things around it by using the juxtaposition of something that presents beautiful things(plant pot) and something that has the potential to take away beauty(erasers). To further this idea, I used erasers that I thought were cute because they are beautiful things that take away the beauty of others.
Painted and Tainted: 13.5" x 13.5" x 3
Medium: Acrylic pain and Embroidery
For this project I created the statement "I colorfully depict nature in my artwork, how can I continue to be experimental?" to explain my projects throughout the year. I wanted to continue to follow this statement for this concentration project so I decided to focus on how making art and using acrylic paint to make the world more beautiful harms nature. I embroidered details on the canvas bag that I used as a base because I wanted to experiment with embroidery. I decorated a bag because I liked how it is a good way to make art not be wasteful by being able to use it, and I used warm colors to represent art and paint, with cool colors representing parts of nature being affected. The project shows acrylic paint harming phytoplankton, which causes harm to large animals like beluga whales, causing harm to the whole ecosystem.
